Yogyakarta, December 21, 2023 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM) successfully organized a webinar titled “The Strategic Role of Data Protection Officers/Data Protection Officer (DPO)” and inaugurated the Center for Cryptography and Cyber Security Studies on Thursday, December 21, 2023. The event began with the launch of the Center for Cryptography and Cyber Security Studies, marked by a ceremonial rice cone cutting by the Dean of FMIPA UGM, Prof. Kuwat Triyana, which was then handed over to the Head of the Center, Prof. Indah Emilia Wijayanti.
The webinar featured Anwar Siregar, Director of CBQA Global, discussing “Data Protection Officer (DPO): Regulation, Potential, Implementation, and Future Prospects.” Following him, Anton Setyawan, CEO of Betaprivacy.id, highlighted the importance of data protection knowledge for parties collecting sensitive data, and addressed cyber security issues, challenges, and solutions.
The third speaker, Prof. Dr. Indah Emilia Wijayanti, M.Si., the Head of the Center for Cryptography and Cyber Security Studies at FMIPA UGM, introduced this new center and informed about the DPO Training that will be held in February 2024.
This event aimed to enhance awareness and knowledge about the importance of data protection and cyber security in the current digital era, marking a strategic step by FMIPA UGM in the field of cryptography and cyber security. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
