Yogyakarta – Tuesday, July 25, 2023, marked the official opening of The 9th SEAMS-UGM 2023 International Conference on Mathematics and Its Applications. This event is held every four years, and it was first organized in 1989. The 9th SEAMS-UGM in 2023 aims to provide a platform for researchers, professors, educators, industry professionals, and students to exchange ideas and foster collaboration between researchers from Southeast Asian countries and those from abroad.
The opening ceremony commenced at 8:00 a.m. (WIB) in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The event was enlivened by a cultural performance showcasing the traditional dance “Tari Gambyong Pangkur.” Attendees showed great enthusiasm and excitement as they welcomed this prestigious academic event in the field of mathematics.
Dr. Nanang Susyanto, S.Si., M.Sc., the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, delivered the opening address, warmly greeting all attendees and expressing gratitude for their participation in the conference. He also hoped that this conference would be an opportunity to deepen the understanding of mathematical concepts and their practical applications, leading to innovative collaborations that will bring new dimensions to the world of mathematics.
Subsequently, Ignatius Susatyo Wijoyo, M.M., Vice Rector of Research, Community Service, and Cooperation at UGM, delivered the opening speech. He highlighted the importance of integrating mathematics with artificial intelligence and the significance of collaboration with the industry. “May this conference foster innovation not only in the field of mathematics but also in various other multidisciplinary fields,” he emphasized.
The 9th SEAMS-UGM 2023 was officially opened with the striking of a gong by Ignatius Susatyo Wijoyo, M.M., accompanied by Dr. Nanang Susyanto, S.Si., M.Sc., Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Triyana, M.Si., the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UGM, and Prof. Indah Emilia Wijayanti, President of IndoMS.
The 9th SEAMS-UGM 2023 International Conference on Mathematics and Its Applications will take place over four consecutive days from July 25th to 28th, 2023. During these four days, the conference will feature presentations from keynote speakers, Paolo Giordano, Ph.D., from the University of Vienna, and Aditya Karnik, Ph.D., the VP of Data Science at Gojek. Additionally, there will be plenary sessions with 18 invited speakers delivering inspirational presentations on crucial issues in mathematics and its applications in various industries. Moreover, during the parallel sessions, participants will present their research in classes focusing on statistics, analysis, algebra, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, and mathematics education.
The opening of The 9th SEAMS-UGM 2023 International Conference on Mathematics and Its Applications is expected to be a milestone in the development of mathematics in Southeast Asia and the world at large. This conference serves as a significant moment to strengthen regional and international collaborations in the pursuit of scientific progress for a sustainable future
