Workshop on Information Literacy to Support Research and Publication

On April 30, 2024, the Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with the Association of Doctoral Students in Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, organized an Information Literacy Workshop to Support Research and Scholarly Publication. The event, held at the Auditorium Room, 7th floor of FMIPA UGM, was attended by faculty members from the Department of Mathematics and doctoral students from the Mathematics Program, FMIPA UGM.

The workshop aimed to assist participants in understanding and developing skills in accessing digital information resources, managing citations, and understanding types of journals for publication. Opened by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Nanang Susyanto, S.Si., M.Sc., M.Act.Sc., the event featured various sessions delivered by Dr. Purwani Istiana, SIP, M.A., a Senior Librarian from Universitas Gadjah Mada assigned to the Library of the Faculty of Geography, UGM.

Participants were guided through accessing and navigating e-resources subscribed to by the UGM Library, scientific writing techniques using Mendeley, an introduction to journal types and target journals for publication, as well as the use of Vosviewer for research trend mapping. The workshop provided valuable insights for participants to strengthen their information literacy skills, crucial in supporting research and scholarly publication activities.

It is hoped that this workshop will make a positive contribution to enhancing information literacy skills for the participants and supporting the smooth flow of academic and research activities within the FMIPA UGM community. Furthermore, the Information Literacy Workshop is also relevant to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education. By providing better access and understanding of information resources, this workshop also supports efforts to improve the quality of education at all levels. Participants’ abilities in managing citations, understanding journal types, and developing digital resource searching skills will help strengthen the educational foundation for doctoral students in Mathematics, FMIPA UGM. Thus, this workshop not only impacts academic competence but also enhances accessibility and quality of education, which are crucial pillars in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4.
