Center for Cryptography and Cybersecurity FMIPA UGM Hosts Cryptography and Cybersecurity Workshop

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Universitas Gadjah Mada, through its Center for Cryptography and Cybersecurity, held a Cryptography and Cybersecurity Workshop at Alana Hotel Yogyakarta on July 22, 2024. This event aimed to strengthen collaboration between FMIPA UGM’s Center for Cryptography and Cybersecurity and PT Analis Forensik Digital and PT Analis Keamanan Siber, in line with efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The workshop featured experts in cryptography and cybersecurity who discussed various current topics, including the application of machine learning and deep learning in cybersecurity and digital forensics. Josua M. Sinambela, M.Eng., CEO and Co-Founder of PT Analis Forensik Digital, delivered a session on the latest developments and future trends in cybercrime, cybersecurity, and digital forensics. Meanwhile, Afiahayati, S.Kom., M.Cs., Ph.D., a lecturer at FMIPA UGM, presented on machine learning and its applications in cybersecurity.

Dr. Aslan Alwi, S.Si., M.Cs., Co-Founder and Senior Researcher at Almudaya Research Institute, provided deeper insights into the use of machine learning and deep learning in cybersecurity and digital forensics. The session on understanding the strengths and weaknesses of blockchain technology was led by Drs. Bambang Nurcahyo Prastowo, M.Sc., a lecturer at FMIPA UGM.

The event commenced at 9:00 AM with opening remarks from representatives of PT Analis Forensik Digital and PT Analis Keamanan Siber, followed by an official opening by the Dean of FMIPA UGM, Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Triyana, M.Si. Participants, including academics, researchers, and practitioners from various institutions, engaged in a forum group discussion (FGD) to identify collaboration opportunities in the field of cybersecurity.

The workshop highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing digital security challenges in an era of rapid digitalization. Additionally, the event aimed to support the achievement of SDGs, specifically SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting technological innovation in information security, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening cybersecurity to support a more secure and transparent justice system and governance.

Through this workshop, UGM and its partners strive to foster knowledge exchange and innovation in information security technology while reinforcing the foundation for collaboration in achieving sustainable development in the digital and cyber fields.
