Yogyakarta, August 24, 2024 – The Mathematics Student Association, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully held the 2024 MathWise Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) Seminar with the theme “Unraveling Mathematical Mysteries – Your First Step into the World of Science! with Laboratories and PKM.” The event took place at the 7th Floor Auditorium of FMIPA UGM and was attended by dozens of mathematics students.
The seminar aimed to introduce PKM to UGM students, particularly Mathematics students, while increasing their interest in research and scientific writing. The event began at 12:30 PM with an opening by the MC, followed by welcoming remarks from the Chief Organizer and the President of the Mathematics Student Association.
The main session of the seminar featured an interactive talk show moderated by a host, with speakers Uha Isnaini, Ph.D., and Christina Agustin Raphonhita Simbolon. The speakers covered various topics, including an introduction to PKM, strategies for developing critical and mathematical thinking, and tips for successful scientific writing. This seminar served to broaden students’ perspectives and motivate them to actively participate in PKM competitions.
In addition to the talk show, the event also featured a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) that engaged participants in discussions and brainstorming on topics provided by the committee. This FGD aimed to enhance teamwork and presentation skills. Three FGD teams were given the opportunity to present their discussion results, which were directly evaluated by the speakers.
The event concluded with an award ceremony for the best team, the distribution of certificates to participants, and a group photo session. “We hope this event will increase the enthusiasm of Mathematics students to participate in PKM and prepare them for national-level competitions,” said Nafiza Fitria Khasanah, one of the MathWise 2024 committee members.
With the success of the 2024 MathWise PKM Seminar, it is hoped that UGM students will be more motivated to innovate and contribute to the fields of science and technology. The committee also hopes that this event serves as a strong starting point for enhancing students’ competitiveness in scientific competitions. This event aligns with SDG Goal 9, which focuses on industry, innovation, and infrastructure, as well as SDG Goal 4, which promotes quality education.
