Workshop “Exploring Mathematical Modeling 2024” Officially Opened: An International Collaboration Between NWU, UGM, and UNY

Yogyakarta, September 16, 2024 – The “Exploring Mathematical Modeling 2024” workshop, a collaborative program between Nara Women’s University (NWU), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), officially commenced today with an opening ceremony held in the Meeting Room 1, 3rd Floor, Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM.

The opening ceremony began with a welcome speech from the Person in Charge (PIC) of the workshop, Dr. Noorma Yulia Megawati, S.Si., M.Sc., who expressed her appreciation for the successful organization of the event. According to her, the workshop is attended by students and academics from both domestic institutions and abroad (Japan). This international collaboration aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it strengthens global partnerships in education and research, particularly in the field of mathematical modeling.

The event was then officially opened by the Dean of FMIPA UGM, represented by Dr. Fajar Adi Kusumo, the Vice Dean for Alumni, Cooperation, and Innovation. In his remarks, Dr. Fajar highlighted the valuable opportunity for students and faculty from various universities to share knowledge and experience in mathematical modeling. The presence of Dr. Pujianto, M.Pd., Vice Dean for Planning, Finance, and Resources of FMIPA UNY, further reinforced the support for this collaboration.

Following the opening ceremony, participants attended the first lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Fugo Takasu, a mathematics expert from NWU. In this lecture, Prof. Takasu discussed the topic “An Introduction to Mathematical Modeling of Population Dynamics,” exploring key concepts and applications of mathematical modeling in population dynamics.

The workshop will run for six days, from September 16 to September 21, 2024. The first three days will be held at UGM, and the last three days will continue at UNY. This workshop features speakers from NWU, UGM, and UNY who are experts in mathematical modeling, including:

  1. Prof. Dr. Fugo Takasu (NWU)
  2. Dr. Fajar Adi Kusumo (UGM)
  3. Dr. Nanang Susyanto (UGM)
  4. Nikenasih Binatari, M.Si (UNY)
  5. Dr. Eminugroho R.S., M.Sc (UNY)
  6. Dr. Dwi Lestari (UNY)
  7. Fitriana Yuli S., M.Si (UNY)

Through this workshop, participants are expected to enhance their mathematical modeling skills while also contributing to the achievement of SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing inclusive and in-depth learning opportunities. This event is hoped to strengthen academic synergy across universities, drive innovations relevant to global needs, and expand academic networks to address global challenges through scientific approaches.
