#MatematikaBangga: UGM Students Win 2nd Place in National Data Analysis Competition (NDAC)

Once again, students from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), have achieved a remarkable feat. Two Statistics students from the Class of 2022, Dimaz Andhika Putra and Natassya Marchelina C. S., successfully won second place in the prestigious Expose Statistics Challenge on National (EPSILON), part of the National Data Analysis Competition (NDAC) organized by Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP).

The NDAC competition carried the theme “Harnessing Data Insights for Sustainable Solutions,” where participants were challenged to analyze, interpret, and extract key information from complex data. The NDAC final presentation and winner announcement were held on September 14, 2024. This competition attracted active students from various universities across Indonesia.

The achievement by Dimaz and Natassya not only demonstrates their deep understanding of statistical data analysis but also their ability to apply theory to real-world problems, an essential skill for future data professionals.

EPSILON, the popular name for this competition, is held annually by the Statistics Student Association of Universitas Negeri Padang (HIMASTA UNP) and is open to active students from across Indonesia. This competition is expected to inspire participants to develop data-driven solutions that can benefit social, economic, and cultural development in Indonesia.

This victory aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, as the competition encourages students to enhance their skills and knowledge in data analysis. Additionally, it supports SDG 9: Innovation and Infrastructure, with the use of data to support better decision-making in sustainable development.

In addition to individual achievements, this victory also serves as evidence of the UGM Mathematics Department’s strong commitment to educating competent professionals who can contribute to the nation’s development through data-driven solutions. The EPSILON competition was held online, providing opportunities for students from all over Indonesia to test their skills and present their ideas.

Congratulations to Dimaz Andhika Putra and Natassya Marchelina C. S. for bringing honor to the Mathematics Department and UGM!
