Mathematics Department Joins MIPA Expo 2024

Yogyakarta, October 16, 2024 – The Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) participated in the prestigious MIPA Expo 2024, which was officially opened today. The event held at the FMIPA UGM campus featured various scientific exhibition activities, and the Mathematics Department booth was one of the most visited.

On the first day of the expo, the Mathematics Department’s booth attracted the attention of students from various schools, including some from out of town such as Bandung and Malang. During this event, the Department promoted its undergraduate programs, including Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science. Visitors were enthusiastic about the various displays and souvenirs available.

MIPA Expo 2024, which will take place until Saturday, October 19, 2024, aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of them is SDG 4, which is “Quality Education,” where this event provides students with the opportunity to access relevant information about science and technology, including mathematics. Through this expo, the Mathematics Department plays a role in educating and enhancing the quality of science education, promoting mathematical literacy among the younger generation.

Additionally, this activity also supports SDG 9, “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure,” by showcasing various applicable mathematical innovations that contribute to technological development and industrial advancement. The Mathematics Department booth promotes the use of mathematics in various fields, such as economics, engineering, and research, which also drives the growth of innovation in the future.

The Mathematics Department stand is also planned to feature various interactive activities during the exhibition, including math quizzes and opportunities to speak directly with outstanding lecturers and students.

With this contribution, the Department of Mathematics strives to promote the importance of mathematics for sustainable development and to continuously spark the interest of the younger generation in science.
