Developing Creativity in Analysis and Geometry at MAGD XV 2024

The Mathematical Analysis and Geometry Day (MAGD) is not just a competition, but also a platform for showcasing works and innovations in mathematics, particularly in the fields of analysis and geometry. In 2024, MAGD celebrated its 15th edition, organized by the Mathematical Analysis and Geometry Expertise Group of ITB. This event consistently demonstrates its relevance in nurturing critical thinking and problem-solving skills among undergraduate students.

UGM Team 3, comprised of Ikhsanudin Muhammad Nurzaini and Jeremy Christian Hutagalung, participated in this competition with the primary goal of deepening their understanding of analysis and geometry, while also contributing through the solutions they created at each stage of the competition. Their solutions were not only tools for competing, but also concrete examples of how mathematical analysis can be applied to solve complex problems.

During the initial stage, held online, UGM Team 3 tackled problems through a CBT platform integrated with ITB’s website. Although they did not advance to the final stage, their contributions were recognized with individual medals, showcasing the excellence of each team member. Ikhsanudin earned a silver medal, while Jeremy received a bronze medal. This achievement is not only a testament to their individual abilities but also highlights the importance of teamwork in overcoming academic challenges.

Beyond the competition aspect, MAGD also provided a space for participants to exchange ideas and build networks through various social activities organized by HIMATIKA ITB. These interactions strengthened cross-university collaboration and encouraged synergy in creating more innovative solutions for the future.

MAGD XV 2024 also supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. This competition serves as a concrete way to support the development of critical and creative thinking skills among students, which are highly needed in today’s increasingly complex world. Additionally, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals is reflected in the cross-university collaboration that took place during the event.

With every work produced and ideas exchanged, MAGD XV becomes more than just a competition—it serves as a platform that fosters the emergence of mathematical innovations that will have an impact across various sectors in the future.
