The Department of Mathematics, FMIPA, Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully held a Sharing Session titled “Developing Numeracy Literacy-Based Questions” as part of the 2024 Community Service Grant program of FMIPA UGM. This event aimed to enhance the competency of mathematics teachers in creating numeracy literacy-based questions and was attended by teachers from the MGMP Mathematics of Bantul Regency junior high schools. Seven lecturers from the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, actively participated in this event, including Dr. Yeni Susanti, M.Si., as the coordinator, Dr. Sumardi, M.Si., Dr. Aluicius Irwan Endrayanto, M.Sc., Umi Mahnuna Hanung, M.Si., Dr. Ari Suparwanto, M.Si., Dr. Dwi Ertiningsih, M.Sc., and Dewi Kartika Sari, M.Sc. Additionally, one administrative staff member, Emiliana Sunaryani Yuniastuti, and one PhD student from the Mathematics program at FMIPA UGM, Titik Suparwati, M.Si., were also involved.
The event was conducted in two phases, on Thursday, June 16, 2024, and Thursday, August 22, 2024, in the Meeting Room I on the 3rd floor of the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM. Both sessions were met with great enthusiasm from participants, thanks to the presence of expert speakers from the UGM Mathematics Department. In the first phase, the material was presented by Dr. Sumardi, M.Si., Umi Mahnuna Hanung, M.Si., and Dr. Aluicius Irwan Endrayanto, M.Sc., focusing on numeracy literacy question development in statistics, probability, and number theory. The moderator for the first phase was Dewi Kartika Sari, Ph.D. In the second phase, the material was delivered by Dr. Ari Suparwanto, M.Si., and Dr. Dwi Ertiningsih, M.Sc., covering algebra and geometry, with Titik Suparwati, M.Si., as the moderator.
Overall, the event offered an interactive learning experience through presentations, discussions, and practical exercises in question development. Participants provided positive feedback and expressed a desire for similar activities to be followed by a certification program for mathematics olympiad coaches. A total of 38 participants attended the first phase, while 30 attended the second.
Dr. Yeni Susanti, M.Si., as the coordinator, appreciated the active participation of the attendees and reaffirmed the commitment of the Department of Mathematics, UGM, to support the capacity development of mathematics teachers. This activity demonstrated the active role of the Department of Mathematics, UGM, in efforts to improve the quality of mathematics education in Indonesia.
With a spirit of collaboration and innovation, the Department of Mathematics, UGM, will continue to contribute to the development of knowledge and community service.
