Yogyakarta, FMIPA UGM – As part of its effort to optimize learning, the Master of Mathematics Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada, has reintroduced tutorial lectures in the First Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year. This initiative is designed to deepen students’ understanding of course material through a more interactive and in-depth approach.
The tutorial lectures, which commenced in the Second Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year, are now one of the program’s flagship learning strategies. Each session is conducted weekly according to a structured schedule and employs various learning methods, including group discussions, case studies, and exploration of complex concepts.
Dr. Indarsih, M.Si., Secretary of the Master of Mathematics Program, explained that the tutorial program aims to provide a broader platform for students to discuss and enhance their understanding.
“Through these tutorials, we hope students will be more active in asking questions, participating in discussions, and gaining a deeper grasp of their course material. This will enable them to achieve better academic performance,” said Dr. Indarsih.
The tutorial sessions are attended by all students taking mandatory courses in the program. The lecturers involved in the tutorial sessions include:
- Nur Khusnussa`adah, S.Si., M.Sc. and Muhamad Najibufahmi, S.Si., M.Sc. for the Analysis I course,
- Rokhana Dwi Bekti, S.Si., M.Si. and Muh. Hasan Kurniawan, S.Si., M.Sc. for Mathematical Statistics I,
- Dr. Mu’amar Musa, S.Si. and Ari Dwi Hartanto, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. for Advanced Linear Algebra.
These lecturers not only deliver additional material but also assist students in understanding challenging concepts and addressing questions related to the main lectures.
The tutorial program has been warmly received by the Master of Mathematics students, who find it immensely beneficial. In addition to improving their understanding, the program also fosters closer interaction between students and lecturers, creating a collaborative and productive learning environment.
Through the implementation of tutorial lectures, the Master of Mathematics Program at FMIPA UGM hopes to continue supporting improvements in learning quality and encouraging students to achieve greater academic success.
