Yogyakarta – The Statistics Student Association of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully hosted ANAVA #19, an annual event designed to introduce statistics as an applied science while enhancing the data analysis skills of the younger generation. The peak event was held offline at the UGM FMIPA Campus on February 15, 2025, attended by dozens of finalists from various competition categories, marking the conclusion of a series of activities that had been ongoing since December 2024.
ANAVA #19 featured five competition categories: The One and the Mathematics Statistics Olympiad (OSM) for high school students, as well as the National Statistics Olympiad (ONS), Statistical Infographics Competition (KIS), and DataVers for university students. This year, a total of 1,985 participants from across Indonesia registered, with all final rounds held offline.
Aisha, a student from SMA Negeri 1 Yogyakarta and the winner of the OSM competition, shared her excitement. “At first, I wanted to learn more about mathematics, and when I found out about this competition, I saw it as a great opportunity. I’m very happy and hope to pursue my studies in Statistics at UGM through SNBP,” she said.
A key innovation in ANAVA #19 was the introduction of DataVers, a data science competition that integrated predictive analysis using the Kaggle platform with academic paper presentations. In addition to the competitions, the event series included non-competitive activities such as Road to ANAVA—a promotional program for schools—and the Open House Statistics UGM, which provided insights into campus life for prospective students.
The grand finale, themed “Celestial Petals: Unity in Diversity,” included award ceremonies for winners across all competition categories, along with artistic performances. This theme emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in advancing statistics as a strategic science relevant to various fields.
Dina Puspita Sari, Chairperson of the ANAVA #19 Committee, expressed hope that the event would continue to grow and innovate in the coming years. “Hopefully, ANAVA #20 can offer a more interactive experience and attract even more participants from across Indonesia. With the spirit of collaboration and innovation, ANAVA is expected to have a broader impact in promoting statistics as a versatile and applicable science,” she said.
With the success of ANAVA #19, the event has further established itself as a prestigious platform for students to explore and enhance their statistical skills.
