METRIK is Back! Enhance UGM Mathematics Students’ Academic Understanding

METRIK (Media Konsultasi Perkuliahan Matematika), a flagship program for UGM Mathematics students to tackle challenging course materials, is back for the Even Semester 2024/2025! This program offers a flexible and interactive consultation space, designed to help students delve deeper into their coursework and overcome various learning difficulties.

An initiative by the Mathematics Study Program and the Department of Mathematics at UGM, METRIK is held on weekdays (Monday–Friday), both offline in Room 501 and online via Zoom, according to each tutor’s schedule. The program has been active since the third week of the semester, on February 24, 2025.

A total of eight tutors—senior undergraduate and postgraduate students, namely Abyan, Didi, Rajen, Juan, Yoga, Ardis, Angga, and Fadlan—are participating in this program under the guidance of lecturers. They are ready to assist with a range of courses, such as Calculus I, Multivariable Calculus I, Introduction to Mathematical Logic and Set Theory, Elementary Differential Equations, Advanced Calculus, Introduction to Algebraic Structures II, Complex Variable Functions II, and Introduction to Analysis II.

Mohammad Abyan Rasyad, one of the tutors, explained that METRIK gives students the freedom to bring up their own topics. “In METRIK, the students approach the tutors, so the material discussed depends on what they need. Tutors don’t have to prepare lesson plans like in a typical tutoring class, but the challenge is being ready to answer a wide range of questions,” he said.

During the Midterm Exam preparation period (April 7–18, 2025), offline METRIK sessions were suspended. Instead, several tutors held mock-up tests and online sessions to ensure students could continue learning effectively.

One of the participants, Clara Kimberly, shared her experience: “I think METRIK is super helpful. If there’s a subject I don’t understand, I end up understanding it better. The tutors explain things clearly and are very patient. You can even set up appointments with them outside of regular METRIK hours!”

Students’ enthusiasm is evident from the weekly attendance numbers, ranging from 20 to 112 participants. The complete schedule, SOP, and classroom details are available at: https://ugm.id/JadwalMetrikGenap2425.

With METRIK, students are expected not only to overcome academic challenges in mathematics, but also to develop independent and collaborative learning habits, ultimately contributing to better academic outcomes by the end of the semester.
