First Quarter of 2025: Master’s Program in Mathematics Successfully Conducts 27 Thesis Examinations

Yogyakarta – The Master’s Program in Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM), proudly recorded an outstanding achievement in the first quarter of 2025 by successfully conducting 27 thesis examinations. These comprised 14 Thesis I defenses and 13 Thesis II defenses, held gradually from January to March 2025 as a vital part of the students’ academic journey.

The examinations ran smoothly and in an orderly manner, thanks to the strong coordination among academic advisors, examination committees, administrative staff, and the full support of the Program Management and the Department of Mathematics. This achievement reflects the high academic spirit and dedication of the students in completing their final academic requirements.

Prof. Dr. Sri Wahyuni, S.U., Head of the Master’s Program in Mathematics, expressed her appreciation to everyone involved in the successful implementation of the thesis exams. “We deeply value the hard work of the students, the dedication of the academic advisors, and the valuable time and insights provided by the examiners throughout the examination process,” she stated.

The thesis topics presented by the students showcased a wide range of interests, reflecting the dynamic and ever-evolving academic atmosphere within the Master’s Program in Mathematics. Areas of research included Algebra (such as Full Fuzzy Prime Semirings, (m,n)-closed and Quasi (m,n)-closed Ideals in Commutative Rings with Unity, and Layered Maximal Submodule Decomposition), Applied Mathematics (Stochastic Models, Linear and Nonlinear Multi-Objective Programming), Analysis (Banach-Valued Function Integrals, Fixed Point Theorems in M-Quasi Metric Spaces), Actuarial Science (Pure Premium Calculation, Multi-Status Models), Computation, and Statistics (Survival Data Analysis and Prediction Using Case-Based Neural Network (CBNN) Models). The successful organization of these exams also serves as a positive indicator of students’ readiness to graduate on time.

Thesis examinations were assessed objectively, taking into account the quality of research, presentation skills, and the students’ analytical sharpness in addressing questions from the examiners. The outcomes of these exams mark a significant milestone for students in their pursuit of the Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Mathematics.

With this achievement, it is hoped that the academic spirit and commitment of the entire academic community will remain strong as they move forward into the next quarter and throughout the 2025 academic year.
