Yogyakarta, July 22, 2025 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with The Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA), is hosting CIMPA School 2025 from July 14–25, 2025. The event is taking place at the Herman Yohannes Auditorium, 1st Floor, FMIPA UGM, and is attended by academics from various countries to discuss current topics in pure and applied mathematics.
CIMPA School 2025 is organized with support from various international partner institutions, including CIMPA, which actively promotes mathematics education in developing countries. One of the international speakers and speaker coordinators present is Dr. Richard Griffon, a lecturer from Université Clermont Auvergne, France, who expressed his enthusiasm for the implementation of CIMPA in Indonesia. “I am very happy and enthusiastic to be here. UGM is a great campus, with great facilities and very nice people,” said Dr. Griffon.
In his interview, Dr. Griffon also compared the academic challenges between Indonesia and France. “Compared to France, it is difficult in Indonesia to recruit professors and staff. But it’s also difficult to find job opportunities. However, thanks to the collaboration between the French Embassy and Indonesian institutions, we can collaborate and offer more international projects and job opportunities for Indonesian students and researchers,” he explained.
The presence of CIMPA’s Executive Director at this event underscores support for strengthening mathematical capacity in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. This activity serves as a strategic platform to reinforce international academic networks and broaden the impact of mathematical research in sustainable development.
As part of its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), CIMPA 2025 encourages the strengthening of scientific capacity, equitable access to quality higher education, and global collaboration in science and technology. This event also opens opportunities for Indonesian researchers and students to establish cross-country research collaborations, both in academic and professional fields.
CIMPA 2025 is expected to be a driving force for Indonesia to further strengthen its role in the global scientific community and create broader opportunities in the world of mathematics education.
