Algebra Guest Lecture Series: In-Depth Exploration of Algebraic Structures and Their Applications

Yogyakarta, July 11, 2024 – The Algebra Laboratory of the Department of Mathematics at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized the Algebra Guest Lecture Series on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The event, which began at 10:00 AM WIB, was held in Seminar Room 1, 3rd Floor, Department of Mathematics, UGM.

Moderated by Mu’amar Musa Nurwigantara, the event featured two international speakers who provided deep insights into the field of algebra. The first speaker, Prof. Cihat Abdioglu from Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University, Faculty of Education, Department of Mathematics and Science Education, Turkey, presented a lecture titled “Graphs on Algebraic Structures: From Past to the Present.” In his presentation, Prof. Abdioglu explained graphs on algebraic structures and provided a comprehensive understanding of how graphs are used in various algebraic contexts.

The second speaker, Atif Ahmad Khan, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India, delivered a lecture titled “Construction of MDS Matrices and Its Application in Block Ciphers.” Atif Ahmad Khan discussed the construction of Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) matrices and their application in cryptography, particularly in block ciphers. His explanation covered the latest techniques in the field and emphasized the importance of data security in the digital era.

The event was attended by lecturers and students from several institutions who were enthusiastic about deepening their knowledge of algebraic structures and their applications in modern technology. Through this event, the Algebra Laboratory of the Department of Mathematics at UGM aims to continue supporting the development of scientific knowledge and fostering international academic collaboration. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which emphasizes the importance of global partnerships for sustainable development.

The Algebra Laboratory of the Department of Mathematics at UGM is committed to continually providing high-quality academic activities to support the development of knowledge and research in mathematics. These activities not only enrich the knowledge of the participants but also strengthen academic networks and international collaboration. In addition to today’s event, there are two more meetings to be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 and Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
