The enthusiasm of CIMPA School 2025 participants in the Cultural Night event introducing Yogyakarta culture: “Interesting to learn”

The CIMPA School 2025, a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and The Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA), held various events from July 14–25, 2025. One of the most captivating agendas was the Cultural Night, held at the CIMPA Mathematics Department. This event successfully enthralled participants of the CIMPA School 2025, leaving them with valuable impressions and experiences.

Hakim, a representative from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and one of the participants, expressed his admiration for the cultural performances he witnessed. “Honestly, I didn’t know much about the history of Yogyakarta and its temples. But through the theater show about Ramayana, I got to learn something new. It’s interesting to see how the story unfolds,” he enthusiastically remarked. “It’s a fun activity that relieves the stress from our intense learning sessions over the past two weeks,” he concluded.

The warm atmosphere was also evident in the story of Adeline, a researcher at CNRS France who attended with her children and husband. For her, CIMPA School 2025 was not just an academic event but also a memorable family experience. “It’s a very nice experience. The children are very happy to discover Indonesia with me,” she shared.

This event was more than just a cultural showcase brimming with knowledge and learning. Beyond that, CIMPA School 2025 became a meeting point that brought together science and culture as part of its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In line with SDG Goal 4, Quality Education, CIMPA is committed to promoting equitable access to quality mathematics education and strengthening scientific capacity. The global knowledge and technology collaborations fostered also align with SDG Goal 17, Partnerships for the Goals.
