Yogyakarta, August 24, 2024 – The Mathematics Student Association, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully held the Algebra Laboratory Seminar as part of the MathWise 2024 event series. The seminar took place at the 7th Floor Auditorium of FMIPA UGM and was attended by undergraduate Mathematics students.
This seminar aimed to provide a deeper introduction to the laboratories within the Department of Mathematics for students, as well as an overview of the available concentration courses and career prospects that can be pursued after completing these specializations. “We hope this seminar will broaden students’ insights into the career options available after completing their studies in the mathematics program,” said Clara Kimberly, one of the MathWise 2024 committee members.
The event began at 08:15 AM with an opening by the MC, followed by remarks from the Chief Organizer, the President of the Mathematics Student Association, and the Head of the Undergraduate Mathematics Program. The seminar then continued with various sessions featuring speakers from each laboratory: Uha Isnaini, Ph.D. (Algebra Laboratory), Atok Zulijanto, Ph.D. (Analysis Laboratory), Prof. Imam Solekhuddin (Computational Laboratory), and Dr. Lina Aryati (Applied Mathematics Laboratory).
The main session, which focused on the laboratories within the Department of Mathematics, was moderated and included presentations on each laboratory’s goals, laboratory heads, faculty members, and the courses offered. Participants were also given the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with the speakers, creating an interactive and enthusiastic atmosphere.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, an ice-breaking session, a satisfaction survey, and the event’s closure at 12:00 PM. “Events like this are crucial for providing in-depth information on available study options and helping students shape their future career paths,” said Asif Tijani Ahmad, the chief organizer.
With the successful completion of the Algebra Laboratory Seminar, it is hoped that UGM Mathematics students, particularly from the undergraduate program, will gain a better understanding of the available laboratories, choose appropriate concentration courses, and prepare for future career prospects. This event also aligns with SDG Goal 9 on industry, innovation, and infrastructure, as well as SDG Goal 4 on quality education.
