A different atmosphere could be felt in the undergraduate building of FMIPA UGM during the 14th week of lectures. As the Odd Semester Final Examinations (UAS) 2025/2026 approach, the METRIK Room has recorded a significant surge in consultation activity. As an academic support facility for undergraduate students, METRIK serves as a space for discussions, questions, and resolving lingering academic issues. Students from various cohorts come and go—some carrying stacks of notes, others taking deep breaths before conveying their academic concerns. All are racing to solidify their understanding before the exams, which are just days away.
From Monday to Friday, METRIK consultation services are open from 15.30–18.00, with additional sessions on Wednesday (09.30–11.00) and Thursday (07.30–10.00). This schedule aligns with the students’ growing need for a responsive, flexible discussion space that helps them find “first aid” for topics they still find difficult to grasp.
Supported by senior undergraduate and master’s student tutors, METRIK provides a place for students to clarify concepts, refine study strategies, and work on practice problems similar to those on their exams. Some students come individually, while others arrive in groups, bringing similar problems to be solved together.
“METRIK has really helped me prepare for quizzes, midterms, and final exams. Besides being able to ask the tutor directly, we can also discuss together,” said one student during a consultation session.
Consultations in METRIK are carried out flexibly. Students may check the schedule and list of tutors, then come directly or contact a tutor beforehand, depending on their needs. Discussions range from understanding fundamental concepts to strategies for solving problems. If needed, additional sessions outside the regular schedule may be arranged directly between students and tutors. METRIK emphasizes one key rule: the service is not intended for students seeking answers to assignments or take-home quizzes/tests.
During busy periods such as the weeks leading up to final exams, METRIK reaffirms its role as a collaborative learning space that helps students sharpen their understanding and strengthen their exam preparation.
