Introducing the IUP Department of Mathematics UGM: A Gateway to Global Careers

Yogyakarta – The Department of Mathematics at FMIPA UGM officially launched its International Undergraduate Program (IUP) through a virtual information session on Friday, February 28, 2025. Under the theme “Career Opportunities in Industrial Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science,” the event attracted prospective students, educators, alumni, and the general public to introduce two new study programs: Industrial Mathematics and Statistics and Data Science, set to commence in the 2025 academic year.

The Dean of FMIPA UGM highlighted the program’s mission: “IUP is built on an internationally oriented curriculum and collaborations with leading global universities to meet modern industry demands. Our graduates will be applied mathematicians and data science experts ready to compete on the global stage.”

The event featured interactive sessions with two industry professionals: Febriandi Rahmatulloh, Division Head of Data Intelligence, opened the discussion by sharing his insights on the role of data science across various industries. He addressed key skills, industry challenges, and career prospects for graduates in this field.

The next session featured Muhammad Zuhri Arifin, Senior Consultant at a consulting firm, elaborated on the impact of mathematics in industrial applications—from production optimization to strategic decision-making. He also presented real-world case studies from his professional projects, illustrating how mathematics drives business solutions.

In the final session, Dr. Nanang Susyanto, S.Si., M.Sc., M.Act.Sc., Head of the UGM Department of Mathematics, provided a comprehensive overview of the IUP program. He outlined the curriculum, available facilities, academic and industry collaborations, and the admission process, equipping prospective students with essential information.

The engaging Q&A session demonstrated participants’ enthusiasm for the opportunities within IUP Mathematics UGM. This program aspires to develop highly skilled talent in data-driven innovation.
