The Mathematics Graduate Student Association (HIMPASTIKA), through the Education and Science Division of the Master’s Program in Mathematics, has once again organized the Academic Clinic, an academic mentoring program aimed at providing competent tutors to offer solutions for students facing difficulties in understanding their coursework. It is expected that students will receive proper guidance in the form of high-quality and easily understandable explanations from the tutors. The tutors will provide tutorial sessions covering midterm (UTS) and final exam (UAS) exercises to help students prepare for these exams. This initiative is considered necessary as UTS and UAS scores significantly contribute to students’ final grades in the courses they take.
This semester, the HIMPASTIKA Academic Clinic focused on several courses, with outstanding students serving as tutors, including Analysis I (Fani Haerul A. R.), Advanced Linear Algebra (Erlangga A. Rohi), Mathematical Statistics I (L. Anindito Wisnu S.), Inter-Event Data Analysis (Liana Isnaeni and Diana Puspitasari), Applied Numerical Methods (M. Reza Subakti), Advanced Operations Research (Leniy Eka Watiy), Multi-Objective Fuzzy Linear Programming (Kartika Kusuma Sari), and Number Theory (Saifullah Ali). Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, engage in discussions, and solve problems together. This activity was conducted from August to December 2024, leading up to the Final Examination (UAS) for Semester I of the 2024/2025 Academic Year.
The Head of the Master’s Program in Mathematics at FMIPA UGM, Prof. Dr. Sri Wahyuni, S.U., expressed her appreciation for the Academic Clinic initiative organized by HIMPASTIKA. She stated that this program is a positive step in supporting the improvement of students’ academic quality. “I highly appreciate HIMPASTIKA’s efforts in organizing this Academic Clinic. This program not only helps students understand course materials better but also fosters an active and collaborative learning culture. With guidance from competent tutors, students can feel more confident in overcoming their academic challenges. This activity aligns with the vision of the Master’s Program in Mathematics at FMIPA UGM, which aims to produce graduates who are not only excellent in theory but also possess strong analytical skills,” she explained.
The President of HIMPASTIKA, Muhammad Reza Subakti, stated that this program is an effort to create a more interactive and collaborative learning environment. “We hope that the Academic Clinic can serve as a solution for students experiencing academic difficulties while also fostering a culture of constructive discussion within the campus environment,” he said.
One of the participants, Feby Desi Lia (Class of 2023), shared that this program has greatly helped her in understanding lecture materials. “Sometimes, I struggle to grasp concepts in class, but here, I can discuss with my peers and receive explanations that are easier to understand,” she said.
With the presence of the HIMPASTIKA Academic Clinic, it is hoped that students will be better prepared for exams and academic assignments while becoming more motivated to achieve greater academic success.
