Yogyakarta, 26 September 2024 – The Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM once again held a colloquium that attracted the attention of academics and students. Held in Auditorium A1.06, the colloquium took place from 9 to 11 AM and was also broadcast online via the Zoom platform, providing participants from various locations with the opportunity to join.
On this occasion, the colloquium featured Prof. Ahmad Erfanian from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, an expert in graph theory, who presented a timely topic entitled “Some New Kinds of Cayley Graphs.” This topic covered innovations and the latest developments in the study of Cayley graphs, which have wide applications in various fields, including cryptography and computer science. Research on Cayley Graphs also has the potential to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which focuses on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by providing mathematical solutions that can enhance information system security and strengthen digital infrastructure.
The event was attended not only by students but also by lecturers from FMIPA UGM, both in person and online. Prof. Erfanian, with his interactive presentation style, successfully sparked the enthusiasm of participants regarding the importance of Cayley graphs in modern mathematics. Such academic contributions also align with SDG 4, which promotes quality education by providing deep and up-to-date knowledge to students and academics, encouraging the sustainable development of intellectual capacities.
Regular colloquia like this are part of the Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of research and student insights while strengthening academic networks on an international scale. Additionally, this initiative aligns with SDG 17, which emphasizes Partnerships for the Goals, where international academic collaborations such as this are expected to strengthen cross-country cooperation in research and knowledge development.
