The Actuarial Science Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada held the inaugural lecture of Actuarial Capita Selecta B, integrated with the Certified Sit-in Program, on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The lecture, conducted online via Zoom Meeting, covered the topic “Actuarial Analysis of Social Security Programs” and was delivered by Danang Teguh Qoyyimi, ASAI, Ph.D., a lecturer in Actuarial Science at UGM with extensive experience in actuarial modeling for social security programs.
This lecture aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the role of actuaries in social security systems, particularly in addressing various social challenges such as poverty, economic vulnerability, and low human resource quality. Through proper actuarial analysis, social protection systems can be optimally designed to mitigate economic and social risks in society.
The session took place from 09:00 to 11:00 WIB, beginning with an introduction to the lecturer and an overview of fundamental concepts. To enhance engagement, participants took part in an interactive quiz via Mentimeter, designed to assess their understanding and interest in social security programs. The dynamic class atmosphere fostered active discussions, with enthusiastic participants posing various questions during the Q&A session. The session concluded with a group photo session.
The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their feedback. Kalinda Karini, one of the participants of the Certified Sit-in Program, shared that the lecture offered new insights into the relationship between actuarial science and social security.
“The Actuarial Analysis of Social Security Programs class was incredibly engaging! Even though it was held online, the session remained interactive and interesting. Opening the class to the public also introduced diverse perspectives and ways of thinking about this course. We gained a deeper understanding of the connection between actuarial science and social security, which extends beyond just BPJS,” she remarked.
With the successful launch of this inaugural lecture, participants are expected to remain committed throughout the course to deepen their understanding and complete the final project, which is a prerequisite for obtaining the program’s certification of completion.
