UGM Statistics Students Win 2nd Place in PRS 2024 Data Analysis Competition

Two 2022 cohort students from the Statistics program, Mahardi Nalendra S. and Daffa Elgo Santosa, achieved remarkable success by securing 2nd place in the Data Analysis Competition (DAC), which is part of the 2024 Statistics Fair (PRS). PRS is a prestigious annual event organized by HIMASTA-ITS and aims to enhance formal education in the field of statistics in line with national education goals.

This competition is conducted through several stages. Starting with the Preliminary Round taking place from August 19 to 28, 2024, where participants must face the initial challenge of analyzing data according to the predetermined theme. The results of this round will then be announced on September 16, 2024, giving the qualified participants time to prepare for the Semifinal Round, which will be held on October 5, 2024. The climax will be when the finalists face off in the Final Round the following day, on October 6, 2024, followed by the announcement of the winner, marking the moment of determination of their hard work throughout the competition.

This year, PRS carries the theme “Empowering Statistical Insights on Renewable Energy,” highlighting the importance of utilizing statistics to support renewable energy solutions. Through this theme, PRS is committed to promoting statistical understanding in addressing contemporary issues and contributing to sustainable energy solutions.

The journey of Mahardi Nalendra S. and Daffa Elgo Santosa towards remarkable achievements in the Data Analysis Competition (DAC) not only reflects their academic abilities but also their contributions in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. (SDGs). The theme carried aligns with SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 13: Climate Action.

In the DAC event, Mahardi and Daffa competed with participants from various leading universities in Indonesia and successfully presented innovative and applicable data analysis related to the theme of renewable energy. This achievement certainly brings pride to the Mathematics Department, FMIPA Gadjah Mada University, and also motivates other students to continue creating and competing on both national and international stages.
