The Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM, once again held a socialization event for its international programs through a webinar entitled “Global Pathways in Mathematics and Statistics” on Saturday (24/1). Conducted online via Zoom Meeting from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB, the event was attended by hundreds of participants from diverse backgrounds.
The webinar aimed to introduce the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) for two newly established study programs at the Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM, namely Industrial Mathematics and Statistics and Data Science, which are officially set to open in 2025. Through this activity, prospective students, teachers, parents, and the general public were invited to gain deeper insights into international study pathways, graduate career opportunities, and the relevance of mathematics and statistics to the needs of the global industry.
The event commenced with an opening session and a joint prayer, followed by two main sessions focusing on each IUP program.
The first session, titled “Global Pathways in Mathematics: Industrial Mathematics for Industry and Innovation,” featured Winkausyar Wanranto, a Production Engineer at a US Hedge Fund. In his presentation, he shared his professional experience in the international industry with a background in mathematics. Participants’ enthusiasm was evident from the large number of questions raised during the discussion session.
The session continued with a presentation by Dr. Sutopo, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Mathematics Study Program, who explained the IUP scheme for Industrial Mathematics. The material covered an overview of the study program, curriculum structure, opportunities for collaboration with overseas partner universities, and various forms of international exposure available to students during their studies. Approximately 139 participants attended this session, the majority of whom were students who remained enthusiastic despite the event taking place over the weekend.

Entering the second session, the webinar titled “Global Pathways in Statistics: Statistics and Data Science for a Data-Driven World” focused on introducing the IUP Statistics and Data Science program. This session featured Dr. Febriandi Rahmatulloh, Director of Astra Digital, who shared insights on the strategic role of statistics and data science in the development of the digital industry.
The presentation was followed by Atina Husnaqilati, Ph.D., Head of the Statistics Study Program at FMIPA UGM, who provided a comprehensive explanation of the IUP Statistics and Data Science program, covering curriculum design, graduate prospects, and opportunities for students to develop competencies in a global context. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, with various questions highlighting career opportunities and graduates’ readiness to meet the demands of an ever-evolving industry.
Overall, the “Global Pathways in Mathematics and Statistics” webinar ran smoothly and communicatively. The high level of participation and positive responses from participants reflected the strong interest in international programs in the fields of mathematics, statistics, and data science. Through this activity, the Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM hopes to broaden information outreach while encouraging the younger generation to confidently pursue international study pathways.
