NGOPTIMASI: Coffee, Mathematics, and Inspiration with Rudhi Prihandoko

The Department of Mathematics at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held an NGOPTIMASI (Coffee, Mathematics, and Inspiration) event with the topic “Conservation Law and Advection Equation”. The event took place on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM WIB in Meeting Room 1, 3rd Floor of the Department of Mathematics, UGM.

This NGOPTIMASI event featured Rudhi Adha Prihandoko, a PhD student from the Australian National University, as the main speaker. Rudhi presented on Conservation Law and Advection Equation, two important concepts in applied mathematics that are frequently used in various scientific and technical applications.

The event was opened by the moderator, Prof. Imam Solekhudin, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., who gave a brief introduction to the topic to be discussed and introduced the speaker. Prof. Imam also emphasized the importance of events like NGOPTIMASI in facilitating relaxed yet beneficial scientific discussions while providing inspiration for participants in developing their research. This activity supports SDG 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

In his presentation, Rudhi Adha Prihandoko explained the basics of Conservation Law and how this principle is applied in solving mathematical and physical problems. He also delved into the Advection Equation, explaining how this equation is used to model the flow of substances in various media. Rudhi’s explanations were accompanied by real-world application examples, making the material easier for participants to understand. This event also contributed to SDG 9, which encourages innovation and quality research as an important foundation for building strong academic infrastructure and supporting the creation of innovative solutions to global challenges.

After the presentation, the event continued with a Q&A session moderated by Prof. Imam. Participants actively asked questions and discussed various aspects of the material presented. The discussion was interactive and enthusiastic, demonstrating the high interest and attention of the participants towards the topic.
The NGOPTIMASI event was closed by Prof. Imam, who thanked all the participants for their active presence and participation in the discussion. The cooperation and active participation of various parties in this event highlighted the importance of partnerships in improving the quality of education, in line with SDG 17, which emphasizes partnerships to achieve global goals.

With the conclusion of this event, it is hoped that students and faculty who attended can implement the knowledge gained in their academic activities, thereby continuously improving the quality and productivity in their respective fields. NGOPTIMASI not only serves as a platform for sharing knowledge but also as a means to strengthen the relationships between students and faculty within the Department of Mathematics at UGM.
