Sumur Kidang Village, located in Pemalang Regency, consists of 5 hamlets, 20 neighborhood units (RT), and 5 community units (RW). In this village, residents are involved in various micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), such as producing different types of chips (including tempeh chips, banana chips, and potato chips), garment making, and gift services. To enhance the visibility and competitiveness of MSMEs in Sumur Kidang Village, it is crucial to utilize information technology and social media. By promoting their products and services through digital platforms, MSMEs can reach a broader market and increase product recognition within the wider community. This digital strategy can help expand market reach, attract more customers, and ultimately increase revenue and business growth in the village.
This motivated the Administrative Staff of the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, to carry out a PkM program in Sumur Kidang Village on Monday, September 2, 2024. The PkM team consisted of Jumari, Parjilan, Siti Aisyah, S.Sos., Susiana, A.Md., Idrap Budiyana, Sumardi, and Silvina Rosita Y, S.Si.
The event was warmly opened by the Head of Sumur Kidang Village, Mr. Mohamad Yasin. In his remarks, he expressed his honor at the opportunity to collaborate with the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, through the visit of the PkM team. Mr. Mohamad Yasin hoped that the material presented during the event would help improve public services and promote MSMEs in Sumur Kidang Village.
During the event, the PkM team from the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, presented two topics. The first was delivered by Silvina Rosita Y, S.Si., titled “Branding Pemalang’s Potential through Instagram with AI”. This presentation discussed how the use of Instagram and artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance the branding and promotion of local MSMEs. The second topic, delivered by Parjilan, was titled “Utilizing Google Forms to Improve Public Services”, providing a guide on using Google Forms to increase efficiency in public services, including data collection, information dissemination, and administrative management.
This material also supports the achievement of the 16th SDG (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), which emphasizes the importance of good governance, transparency, and equal access to information for communities in obtaining quality public services.
The event was held at the village hall of Sumur Kidang and was attended by village officials, heads of hamlets, the PKK Mobilization Team, the Village Consultative Body (BPD), teachers, and UMPD from Sumur Kidang Village. The participants showed great enthusiasm in listening to the presentations from both speakers. To add excitement and further engage the participants, several door prizes were also distributed as gifts.
At the end of the event, the PkM team presented a souvenir to the Head of Sumur Kidang Village as a token of appreciation for the excellent cooperation and participation. Mr. Mohamad Yasin expressed his hope to strengthen future collaboration and conveyed his desire for Sumur Kidang Village to be a location for UGM’s Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program. He hoped that this partnership would continue and provide even greater benefits to the village community.
This PkM activity is also part of the promotional efforts for the academic programs of the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, including its undergraduate (S1), master’s (S2), and doctoral (S3) programs. Through this promotion, it is hoped that the community will become more familiar with the various study opportunities in mathematics, as well as the Department of Mathematics’ tangible contributions to technological development and public service.
