After seven full days, the MIDSEA Summer School 2025 officially concluded on Sunday, June 29, 2025, with a closing ceremony at the MICC Building, The Alana Yogyakarta Hotel and Convention Center. The closing event featured a joint reflection session with all participants and an awards presentation to participants and lecturers who contributed throughout the program.
The closing session began with presentations from two Universitas Gadjah Mada lecturers. Prof. Dr. Fajar Adi Kusumo, M.Si., delivered a presentation titled “Mathematical Modeling on Cancer Disease,” explaining how mathematical approaches can be used to understand cancer spread and treatment. Following this, Dr. Irwan Endrayanto, M.Sc., presented on “Improving Health Care Operations via Optimal Resource Allocation and Logistics Design,” highlighting the importance of efficiency in healthcare operations.
Next, souvenirs were presented to all lecturers as a token of appreciation from the committee for their dedication and knowledge shared during the program. This moment was warmly and enthusiastically received by participants representing various disciplines, including mathematics, epidemiology, public health, computer science, and biostatistics. Participants came from diverse national backgrounds, including Indonesia, India, Japan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. In addition, awards were presented to the winners of the best poster competition, handed directly by Prof. Alex Cook, a key representative of the MIDSEA initiative and an expert in mathematical epidemiology from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
The event was officially closed by Prof. Dr. Fajar Adi Kusumo, M.Si., Vice Dean for Alumni, Partnerships, and Innovation, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UGM. In his speech, he expressed appreciation to all international participants for their enthusiasm and active participation throughout the program. The MIDSEA Summer School 2025 not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also as a bridge for cross-disciplinary and cross-national collaboration, enriching perspectives and building strong international academic networks.
