Yogyakarta, July 12, 2024 – Kabupaten Bantul is one of the regions in the Special Region of Yogyakarta well-known for its natural resources. In addition, tourists visiting this area have a positive impact on the development of regional potential, one of which is the tourism village. Terong Village, located in the Dlingo District of Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, is situated in the northernmost sector of Dlingo District. Topographically, this village is marked by its quite steep roads, with an incline reaching 45°, making access to this village quite challenging.
Quality education for local residents is a cornerstone of the success of these tourism villages. According to 2024 population data, the majority of Terong Village residents have only attained an elementary school level of education. This indicates that the quality of education for most residents of this village is still below the average for the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This has prompted the PKM Community Service team, consisting of mathematics lecturers and students, to contribute to improving the quality of mathematics education at an elementary school in Terong Village.
In line with efforts to improve quality education, mathematics is a fundamental subject that needs to be taught to children. Creative and innovative learning media are needed to support student learning in schools. Additionally, teachers as learning facilitators should have adequate competence in delivering material to students to prevent them from feeling bored. The advancement of technology in the modern era allows for innovative and engaging learning media. One such medium that can be created to support learning is Animation Learning Video..
To ensure the success of this initiative, the PKM-PM team has conducted several activities involving students. The first two activities were the creation of learning media utilizing wood waste. During this semester break, the team held four meetings with students to use these media in learning. These activities took place on July 1, 4, 8, and 11, 2024. Students found mathematics learning more enjoyable, as they not only counted but also watched animated videos that helped them understand concepts. This activity supports SDG 4 on quality education.
This program aims to increase students’ interest and understanding of mathematics while positively impacting the quality of education in Terong Village. The PKM-PM team remains committed to ongoing innovation in teaching practices to support the achievement of quality education across Indonesia.
