Yogyakarta, April 20, 2024 — The academic community of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UGM, along with alumni, joined in celebrating the second anniversary of KaRMaPIT with a successful cycling event under the theme “Women in Pedaling Motion”.
The festivities, which coincided with Eid al-Fitr 1445 H and Kartini Day, revolved around the theme of empowering women through cycling, with an all-female organizing committee. Participants from various backgrounds took on a 35 km route with diverse terrain, from smooth asphalt to rocky paths, presenting both physical challenges and adding excitement and vibrancy to the event.
Eko Eshape, the mentor of KaRMaPIT, raised the starting flag to commence the event. After overcoming the designated route, the event did not conclude merely upon reaching the finish line. Various engaging activities were prepared by the committee, including the ceremonial cutting of “tumpeng” by Eko Eshape, handed over to the most senior Road Captain, Prof. Sri Suryawati, affectionately known as Yang Uti.
Additionally, there was an abundant distribution of door prizes, ensuring all participants went home with fond memories. Furthermore, the playing of the “Mars KaRMaPIT,” created by community members, added to the spirit of togetherness.
During the occasion, Yang Uti expressed delight in the event, portraying KaRMaPIT as a community earnest in developing its members’ capacities and organization. “This activity is highly positive, supporting a healthy lifestyle and camaraderie, and helping enhance the cycling skills of its members,” said Yang Uti. She also commended the routine and professional efforts of the KaRMaPIT Volunteer Team in organizing various activities, including coaching clinics beneficial for health and safety during cycling.
Nuning Byo, Chairperson of the Gowes Committee, stated that the chosen theme was highly relevant to Kartini Day, reflecting the development of women’s emancipation in Indonesia. “KaRMaPIT is committed to supporting inclusive activities and strengthening the role of women in sports and social activities,” added Nuning. This simultaneously serves as support for SDGs points 3 and 5, aiming to create a community that cares for health and well-being by involving women. KaRMaPIT not only celebrates its two years of existence but also successfully inspires and promotes inclusivity and health awareness through cycling, making it a positive example within the academic community and beyond.
