Algebra Research Seminar: A Forum for Discussion and Exploration of Mathematics Students of FMIPA UGM

For two days, June 19-20, 2025, the Algebra Laboratory of the Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM held a Student Research Seminar in Algebra, located in Room 501, Building D, 5th floor FMIPA UGM. This activity was attended by lecturers and students of undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs who are members of the Algebra Laboratory.

This seminar aims to improve the academic insight and scientific communication skills of students, as well as an open discussion forum between students and supervisors regarding the topics of their final project.

The event was opened directly by Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Indah Emilia Wijayanti, S.Si., M.Si., as the Head of Algebra Laboratory, and lasted for two days. On the first day, Thursday (19/6), the session took place at 12:30-16:00 WIB with six students as presenters. Each participant was given 20 minutes to present, followed by a 10-minute question and answer session open to all audiences, including lecturers and students.

The topics raised were very diverse and reflected the depth and breadth of exploration of the field of algebra. One of the presenters, Gusti Ayu Dwiyati, presented her research entitled “A Generalization of Posner’s Theorem for (δ, f)-Derivations and Jordan (δ, f)-Derivations on Modules”, under the guidance of Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Indah Emilia Wijayanti. This research examines derivative concepts in algebraic structures, such as derivations, (δ, f)-derivations, as well as generalization of Posner’s Theorem for (δ, f)-derivations and Jordan (δ, f)-derivations on modules. This topic attracts attention because it raises the advanced theoretical side in abstract algebra that has potential for research development in the field of modern algebra.

The seminar continued the next day, Friday (20/6) at 08.00-11.30 WIB, with presentation sessions from other students. For two days, a total of more than ten topics were successfully presented, reflecting the various research directions that are being developed within the Algebra Laboratory.

This activity is expected to strengthen the student research community within the Department of Mathematics, and encourage wider academic collaboration in the field of algebra.
