Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held an internal selection to identify outstanding students with the potential to represent the university in the National Olympiad of Mathematics and Natural Sciences for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) at regional and national levels, as well as in other competitions. The selection took place on February 15, 2025, at the Faculty of Biology, UGM, and was attended by 174 students across various fields: 62 in Biology, 34 in Physics, 33 in Chemistry, and 45 in Mathematics. Among them, 22 participants in the Mathematics category were from UGM’s Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
As part of their preparation, participants attended intensive training sessions ranging from four to six meetings, each lasting 100 to 120 minutes. The training ran from January 20 to February 9, 2025, and was open to all UGM students interested in the selection. Each field received guidance from lecturers and alumni who are experts in their respective disciplines. Specifically for Mathematics, six training sessions were held, with the final session on February 7, 2025. The selection format varied across fields. In the Mathematics internal selection, participants were required to complete 10 short-answer questions and 5 essay-style problems.
One of the participants, Aditya Yoga Sadana, shared his preparation journey:
“I started studying during the last semester break, along with the training sessions, which have been extremely helpful. For the past two years, I have passed the internal selection but have not managed to advance to the regional level. That’s why this year, I am even more determined to qualify,” he said.
With rigorous preparation and unwavering determination, UGM’s top students are expected to excel and bring honor to the university on both national and international stages.
