The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully held a workshop titled “MathVision: Empowering Excellence and Synergy 2024” at Hotel Ciputra, Jl. Simpang Lima, Semarang, Central Java. The event took place over three days, from November 30 to December 2, 2024, and successfully strengthened the collaboration between faculty members and educational staff in the Department of Mathematics.
This event, attended by all faculty and educational staff members of the Department of Mathematics, aimed to foster closer relationships and enhance synergy in the development of mathematics education quality at UGM. With the theme Empowering Excellence and Synergy, the workshop served as a platform to share knowledge, experiences, and innovative ideas. Additionally, the workshop also provided an opportunity for educational staff to collaboratively develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for various tasks within the Department of Mathematics.
The event began with a welcome address from Dr. Nanang Susyanto, M.Sc., M.Act.Sc., the Head of the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, who emphasized the importance of synergy between faculty and educational staff in creating a superior and competitive education system. Dr. Nanang also encouraged all participants to continue collaborating for the advancement of mathematics education at UGM.
Next, Dr. Noorma Yulia Megawati, M.Sc., M.Act.Sc., the Secretary of the Department of Mathematics, presented the achievements of the Department of Mathematics as of November 2024, followed by a discussion and notes taken by Restu Ananda Putra, S.Si., M.Aktr. The following session was a report on the condition and progress of the Department’s Graduate Program, led by Dr. Budi Surodjo, M.Si., Head of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Division, followed by a discussion on the development direction of the Graduate Program.
During this session, the educational staff also held discussions on the development of work instructions, self-development, and their performance effectiveness in supporting the success of the Department’s programs.
In the evening, at 7:00 PM, the workshop continued with a discussion on career development and the need for faculty formation, led by the Head of the Laboratory. This session was divided into several groups based on each laboratory, and ended at 9:00 PM, after which participants took a break.
The second day began at 6:00 AM with a shared breakfast. At 8:00 AM, Dr. Nanang Susyanto led a session on reviewing achievements and reflecting on the Department’s VMT. On this day, the Department invited a team from Swaragama Training Centre (STC) to give a lecture on leadership, achieving vision and mission, and conflict management. In the afternoon, the discussion continued with themes on planning and strategy, as well as lifelong learning.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the indoor outbound session, which involved exciting games that required cooperation between faculty members and educational staff. In his explanation, Mas Gideon, the speaker from STC, explained that in an organizational pyramid, the foundation must include trust, the courage to face conflicts, reliability, and a shared commitment to achieving common goals.
The second day’s session ended with a presentation on the development plan for the undergraduate program in 2025 and a discussion on the development of laboratories in 2025, led by the Head of the Curriculum and Program Development Committee, as well as each Laboratory Head.
On the third day, after a shared breakfast, the event continued at 8:00 AM with reports from each laboratory and coordinators. The workshop was concluded at 11:30 AM by Dr. Noorma Yulia Megawati, M.Sc., M.Act.Sc., Secretary of the Department, with notes taken by Dr. Mu’amar Musa Nurwigantara, S.Si.
The MathVision: Empowering Excellence and Synergy 2024 workshop proved to be an inspiring and productive event for all participants. It is hoped that this activity will continue to strengthen the synergy between academics and professionals, and that the real contributions of the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, in advancing scientific knowledge will be increasingly felt by the wider community.
