Malang – Team Markisa from Universitas Gadjah Mada, comprising Elgita Kisti Cahyani and Marta Afifah, secured second place in the prestigious National Statistics Challenge (NSC) 2024 organized by Universitas Brawijaya. This national competition, which began on August 25, 2024, brought together top teams from across Indonesia to compete in data analysis and statistical challenges.
Team Markisa’s journey started with the preliminary round, which tested participants’ skills through essay questions and statistical Olympiad-style problems. After successfully passing the initial selection, they advanced to the “think test” stage in September. In this round, each team member worked on multiple-choice statistical questions individually, followed by a data analysis essay completed within six hours. Using the Structured Equation Model (SEM) approach, the team presented an innovative and well-structured data analysis.
Out of 29 semifinalist teams, Team Markisa made it to the top five and progressed to the final round. Unlike the previous stages conducted online, the final was held in person at Universitas Brawijaya’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) building in Malang over two days. During the final session, the team presented their data analysis results to a panel of three expert judges. Their 10-minute presentation, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session, was delivered with confidence, backed by strong arguments and a deep understanding of the subject.
The hard work and dedication of Elgita and Marta paid off with a remarkable achievement. During the closing ceremony, Team Markisa was announced as the second-place winner. This accomplishment not only brought pride to Universitas Gadjah Mada but also inspired other students to continue competing and innovating at the national level.
