UGM mathematics students won four medals in the 2023 Higher Education National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad (ONMIPA).
The UGM Mathematics Olympiad team won one gold medal and three silver medals. Orlando Ferrari, a student in the Mathematics Study Program class of 2021, managed to become one of the finalists who won a gold medal in mathematics. In addition, Akbar Adi Nugroho, Fajar Arif Sodaqin, and Muhammad Fatkhurrohman won bronze medals in mathematics.
Orlando said, “The strongest motivation is my background, where I was an OSN participant in elementary school and always failed to get a medal, but I still don’t want to give up on getting it.”
The competition, which took place during May–June, ended with a closing and award ceremony, which took place at FMIPA ITB on Saturday, June 17, 2023. This event was also broadcast live on the FMIPA ITB YouTube channel.
“Don’t forget to be grateful and continue to process after becoming someone who is ‘successful’. Also, do not forget that to achieve the best victory, friends must be prepared to sacrifice several things, be it hours of sleep, emotions, or other things, “concluded Orlando.
Hopefully, this success can inspire all students in the Mathematics Department of FMIPA UGM to be more enthusiastic about participating in competitions and improving their skills and abilities.
