Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the 2025 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT), held at Universitas Padjadjaran on 16–20 November 2025. At this national-level competition, UGM won the Overall Champion title by securing 6 gold medals, 1 silver, 6 bronze, and 1 honorable mention across four fields: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
A significant contribution came from the Mathematics division, which delivered three gold medals and one bronze. Among the five competing students, Muhammad Hanif, Stephen Sanjaya, and Rama Sulaiman Nurcahyo each earned a gold medal, while Fajar Arif Shodiqin added one bronze. In total, 19 students represented UGM, demonstrating the overall strength and preparedness of the university’s delegation.
This achievement further extends UGM’s consistent excellence in Mathematics, as the university has secured gold medals for six consecutive years. Moreover, in four editions—2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025—UGM’s team succeeded in winning the absolute winner title.
As one of Indonesia’s national talent development programs, ONMIPA-PT aims to foster creativity, innovation, and academic capacity among students in Mathematics and the natural sciences. The competition serves as an important indicator of the quality of academic development at higher education institutions.
UGM’s success this year is inseparable from the dedication of the mentors. The Department of Mathematics extends its appreciation to the lecturer mentors: Mr. Wawan, Mr. Iwan, Mr. Uha, Ms. Sekar, and Mr. Musa, as well as the mentors from the past five years, including Mr. Budi, Mr. Erwin, and Mr. Benny. Appreciation is also given to all lecturers who have contributed to educating and developing students’ competencies.
One of the medalists, Fajar Arif Shodiqin, shared his personal reflection as he approached his final participation in ONMIPA:
“This year will most likely be my last time competing in ONMIPA. Honestly, this bronze medal result is below my expectations. However, I am grateful for the opportunity to chase my dream of winning a gold medal. Even though that dream has not yet come true, with UGM becoming overall champion, I hope future ONMIPA delegates from UGM will continue to dream big and maintain this achievement.”
This accomplishment reaffirms UGM’s commitment to nurturing outstanding students while strengthening its position as one of Indonesia’s leading centers for Mathematics and science education.
