The Mathematics Doctoral Study Program of FMIPA UGM held an accreditation visitation by the Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences Independent Accreditation Agency (LAMSAMA) on 23–24 May 2025.
This visitation was part of the reaccreditation process for the Mathematics Doctoral Study Program, which had previously obtained an “Unggul” rating from BAN-PT and whose accreditation will expire on 30 August 2025.
The LAMSAMA assessor team conducting the field assessment consisted of two senior academics, Prof. Dr. Roberd Saragih and Prof. Dr. Mardlijah, M.T. Their presence was welcomed by faculty leaders, heads of study programs, lecturers, students, alumni, and educational staff of the Mathematics Doctoral Study Program.
For two days, the assessors reviewed various aspects of the study program implementation, including curriculum, learning processes, teaching staff, scientific publications, facilities and infrastructure, student services, graduate achievements, as well as satisfaction and feedback from external stakeholders.
The field assessment began with a speech by the Dean of FMIPA UGM, Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Triyana, M.Si. He warmly welcomed and expressed gratitude for the visit of the LAMSAMA assessor team: “The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UGM is committed to ensuring the quality of higher education, especially in the field of mathematics. We continuously strive to maintain and improve academic standards and support the development of quality research at the doctoral level,” he said.
Also attending the opening ceremony were representatives from the University’s Quality Assurance and Reputation Unit (Prof. Dr. L. Hartanto Nugroho, M.Agr.), Vice Dean for Alumni, Cooperation, and Innovation (WDAKSI) (Prof. Dr. Fajar Adi Kusumo, S.Si., M.Si.), Head of the Department of Mathematics (Dr. Nanang Susyanto, M.Sc., M.Act.Sc.), Secretary of the Department of Mathematics (Dr. Noorma Yulia Megawati, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.), Management of the Mathematics Postgraduate Program (Prof. Dr. Christiana Rini Indrati, M.Si. and Prof. Dr. Sri Wahyuni, S.U.), Head of UJM FMIPA (Prof. Dr. Mitrayana, S.Si., M.Si.), Head of GJM Department of Mathematics (Dr. Budi Surodjo, M.Si.), and Head of the Curriculum Committee of the Department of Mathematics (Prof. Dr. rer. Nat. Yeni Susanti, M.Si.).
“First of all, I would like to thank and welcome the LAMSAMA assessor team, Prof. Dr. Roberd Saragih and Prof. Dr. Mardlijah, M.T., who have taken the time to serve as assessors in the field assessment of the Mathematics Doctoral Program. We are ready to assist to facilitate your tasks during this assessment process. Hopefully, the next two days of activities will run smoothly and yield maximum results,” explained Dr. Nanang Susyanto, M.Sc., M.Act.Sc., Head of the Department of Mathematics, during his speech.
The Head of the Mathematics Doctoral Study Program, Prof. Dr. Ch. Rini Indrati, M.Si., emphasized that the accreditation process is not merely an administrative assessment. “We welcome this process as part of our efforts to improve academic quality and accountability, as well as a reflection of our commitment to the quality standards of higher education in Indonesia. Our expectations align with the vision of the Department of Mathematics: National Leader and International Expert in Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science. In accordance with Gadjah Mada’s philosophy ‘Ginong Pratidina,’ we have continuously strived for continuous improvement in education quality, research, and community service, as well as in establishing cooperation with institutions both domestically and internationally. We also acknowledge that this accreditation process is not solely an administrative evaluation but serves as a reflection on sustainability of quality and strengthening academic governance, and is a highly valuable moment for self-evaluation.”
The session with the Study Program Management Unit (UPPS) included confirmation regarding macro policies on institutional development, governance systems, management systems, reported institutional achievements, and development plans for the University/Faculty, as well as resource management (HR, finance, assets and facilities, and information systems). This was followed by confirmation of the implementation, results, and effectiveness of SPMI, Final LKPS, Self-Evaluation Report (LED), management of human resources, finance, assets and facilities, and information systems.
“We are here to capture what we see based on information from you and valid evidence that can later be presented to us. The results of this visitation will form the basis for LAMSAMA in providing the latest accreditation status for the UGM Mathematics Doctoral Study Program. This accreditation is expected to further strengthen UGM’s academic reputation as one of Indonesia’s leading higher education institutions,” explained Prof. Dr. Roberd Saragih during the meeting with the Accreditation Team.
Some of the criteria assessed by LAMSAMA include (1) Vision, Mission, Goals, and Strategies; (2) Governance and Cooperation; (3) Students; (4) Human Resources; (5) Finance, Facilities, and Infrastructure; (6) Education; (7) Research; (8) Community Service; and (9) Outputs and Achievements of the Tridharma of Higher Education.
On the second day, the assessor team visited various facilities in the Department of Mathematics such as S2/S3 lecture rooms, faculty offices, lecture halls and broadcasting rooms on the 5th floor of the S1 Building, library, student lounge, prayer room, pantry, common room, Department of Mathematics management offices, and student workspaces for the Mathematics Doctoral Study Program.
The assessor team also conducted interviews with several parties to strengthen evidence related to the submitted criteria, including lecturers of the Mathematics Doctoral Study Program, educational staff, students, alumni, and alumni users.
The series of visitation activities concluded with the signing of the minutes of the field assessment and the submission of recommendations regarding accreditation results to the university, faculty, and study program. With the successful completion of this activity, the Department of Mathematics hopes to continue making significant contributions to the development of mathematics at both national and international levels. There is a strong hope that the Mathematics Doctoral Study Program will again achieve the “Unggul” accreditation status.
