This series of lectures reviews stochastic operations research methods and their application in healthcare logistics. Particular focus will be on Markov chains, queueing theory and Markov decision theory. We will review the mathematical foundations and consider several applications in Dutch hospitals. Each lecture addresses a particular application: determining the required number of beds of the nursing ward using Erlang loss models, re-design of an outpatient clinic using networks of queues, and the outflow of the operating theatre to the nursing ward.
