Training and Certification Program for DPO Experts Officially Launched

Yogyakarta, February 26, 2024 – In response to the increasing market demand for competent Data Protection Officers (DPO), the Center for Cryptography and Cybersecurity, FMIPA UGM, in collaboration with CBQA Global, has initiated a training and certification program for DPO experts. This intensive program is held at the Grand Rohan Hotel in Yogyakarta, taking place from February 26 to March 1, 2024.

The official training commenced on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 08:30 a.m. It began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, followed by a warm speech from Prof. Dr. Indah Emilia Wijayanti, Chair of the Center for Cryptography and Cybersecurity Studies at FMIPA UGM. The opening ceremony continued with guidance from the trainer and a few words from Dr. Fajar Adi Kusumo, Vice Dean of FMIPA UGM, marking the initial step of this training series. The program is attended by 17 participants, including 5 lecturers and internal students from FMIPA UGM, who are ready to delve into and master the competencies as DPO.

In this continually evolving digital era, data breaches are becoming increasingly common, underscoring the crucial role of DPOs. They are responsible for safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring compliance with various legal frameworks. Consequently, the demand for skilled and certified DPOs continues to rise. The DPO profession is globally recognized, with established competency standards at the international level, emphasizing the importance of formal training and certification. The program organized by the Center for Cryptography and Cybersecurity FMIPA UGM in collaboration with CBQA Global aims to prepare professionals to be effective advocates for privacy and data security amidst the ever-evolving digital landscape.

This training and certification are based on the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) No. 103 of 2023, taking into account the requirements of the Personal Data Protection Act (UU PDP) No. 27 of 2022, as well as the international standard ISO/IEC 27701. This initiative is a strategic response not only to regulatory demands but also aims to enhance the skills and professional competencies in the field of data protection. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Through this training, it is hoped that participants can strengthen their roles as competent DPOs, ready to tackle data protection challenges in the digital era, and contribute to the development of sustainable and innovative industries and communities.
