C3R FMIPA UGM : Reviews RSA Security on Fourth Reading Group

Yogyakarta(02/23/2024) – The Center for Cryptography and Cybersecurity Research (C3R) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully held its fourth reading group activity on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 09:00 AM WIB via Zoom Meeting. This activity is part of the report on the visit of four undergraduate students from the Department of Mathematics, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), to the State Polytechnic of Cyber and National Code (Politeknik Siber dan Sandi Negara – Poltek SSN) on February 19 and 20, 2024. Located at Jl. Raya H. Usa, Putat Nutug, Kec. Ciseeng, Bogor Regency, West Java, Poltek SSN hosted Indriani Safitri, Richard Tormin Octavian, Amrul Fadhil Yofan, and Nisa Ayu Azzahra in a series of activities designed to deepen their knowledge and skills in cryptography.

The main topic discussed was the security of the RSA cryptographic system, with focus on analyzing kleptographic attacks using arithmetic ratios. This material introduces the “Fusion of Number Balance” as an innovative strategy to counter attacks on RSA, emphasizing the importance of understanding the RSA algorithm and the impact of mathematical attacks on its security.

In this occasion, also discusses how attackers might compromise keys by using specific mathematical ratios and the significance of choosing the right prime numbers throughout the RSA key creation procedure. This underscores the need for higher standards in key generation and deeper detection strategies to strengthen RSA security.

The main reference discussed is Ivanov and Stoianov in 2023, who offer a new perspective on RSA security analysis by emphasizing the importance of arithmetic ratios between prime numbers used in RSA key generation. They propose the “Fusion of Number Balance” concept, which suggests ways to enhance RSA encryption security by reducing the value of ‘g’, the indicator of the distance between prime numbers used. This study also discusses the importance of stricter standards in RSA key generation to counter potential kleptographic attacks, highlighting their role in accelerating the development of more secure cryptographic systems.

We genuinely encourage researchers, professionals, and students with an interest in cryptography to join in on comprehensive discussions about current topics in this discipline. The purpose of this activity is to assist in the accomplishment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 9 related to industry, innovation, and infrastructure, as well as number 11 concerning the development of sustainable cities and communities.
