Promoting Healthier Lifestyles Through Group Cycling

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles Through Cycling Together Yogyakarta, February 10, 2024 – The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM), supports a series of activities focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle among the academic community, especially through cycling together. This is in line with the demands of the modern era, where the importance of maintaining physical and mental health becomes a necessity. Therefore, several members of the academic community of the Department of Mathematics are actively contributing to cycling activities, especially with the PESEGI community.

The PESEGI Community, initiated by lecturers and alumni of FMIPA UGM, is a cycling community that not only focuses on physical activities but also builds camaraderie and shares knowledge. With a vision to promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen relationships among members, PESEGI has become one of the most active cycling communities in Yogyakarta.

On February 10, 2024, a small team consisting of lecturers and alumni conducted a route check in preparation for a cycling event. The chosen route passes through Parangtritis Street, passes by the Bantul Grand Mosque and Bantul Market, and ends at Kopi Tempuran. This route will undoubtedly test stamina while providing an experience of enjoying the natural beauty and culture of Yogyakarta. One of the unique aspects of this cycling route is the selection of locations that not only offer natural beauty but also cultural richness. For example, the Bantul Grand Mosque and Bantul Market provide opportunities to delve into the lives of local communities and the history of Yogyakarta. The activity concludes with a communal breakfast at Tongseng Ayam Sudimoro and a coffee session at Kopi Tempuran.

The cycling event supported by the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UGM, together with the PESEGI community, is not just a physical activity but also a means to strengthen camaraderie, share knowledge, and promote a healthy lifestyle. Since this activity serves as a route check, there is a larger event being prepared. This is a planned group cycling event on February 24, 2024, with the route from FMIPA UGM to Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA). Participants will be treated to a route offering beautiful scenery and fresh air, with transportation back to Yogyakarta provided by train.
This activity contributes to building a healthier and more environmentally and socially conscious generation. It also supports the Health Promoting University program and contributes to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-Being.
