Mini-Course: Exploring Queueing Theory for Optimizing Healthcare Efficiency

Yogyakarta, (02/02/2024) — The Department of Mathematics, within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), is currently hosting an enlightening Mini-Course on Queuing Theory, led by the esteemed Prof. Dr. Richard Boucherie, a renowned Professor of Stochastic Operations Research from the University of Twente, Netherlands. The event, taking place in Courtroom 1 on the 3rd floor of the Department of Mathematics, began its session offline, marking a significant educational gathering.

Prof. Boucherie’s lecture delves into the intricate world of mathematical modeling, focusing on its application in health service systems. Through his expert lens, participants are exploring the critical role of mathematical modeling in enhancing health service quality across various countries. The course also highlights the essential time and effort required to foster awareness of the benefits of mathematical models in achieving excellence in health services.

Prof. Boucherie’s presentation highlights the introduction of CHOIR: the Center for Healthcare Operations Improvement and Research at the University of Twente. CHOIR epitomizes the integration of Operations Research (OR), Operations Management (OM), and data science in advancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare services. Hence, this opportunity constitutes a significant momentum to contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 3, which pertains to the realization of good health and well-being. This initiative demonstrates the tangible impact of academic research on professional health service improvement.

Facilitating an interactive dialogue between the attendees, the Mini-Course features Oki Almas, S.Sc., M.Sc., as the moderator, ensuring a rich and engaging learning experience. Scheduled to run until February 22, 2024, the course promises further exploration into Markov Chain and Dynamic Programming. This educational endeavour aims to enrich theoretical knowledge, foster practical application, and inspire future research innovations.

The Department of Mathematics at UGM is proud to facilitate this pivotal event, underscoring its commitment to academic excellence and advancing research in mathematics and its applications.
