The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing higher education through various forms of academic collaboration. As part of this commitment, three faculty members from the Department of Mathematics were invited as guest speakers in a series of guest lectures organized by the Mathematics Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Featuring topics from diverse areas of mathematics, the guest lecture series provided a platform for knowledge sharing while broadening students’ understanding of both theoretical developments and practical applications of mathematics. The event also strengthened inter-institutional collaboration in support of enhancing the quality of mathematics education and advancing mathematical sciences in Indonesia.
During the morning session, Uha Isnaini, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. delivered a lecture entitled Applications of Cryptography in Data Science at Building B24, Room 302 (Mathematics Department Hall). Held from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., the session explored the role of cryptography in securing information and highlighted its applications in data processing and protection in the digital era.
At the same time, Made Tantrawan, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. presented Function Limits and Their Theorems in Real Analysis at Building A19, Room 608. Conducted from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m., the lecture strengthened participants’ understanding of the concept of function limits and the fundamental theorems that underpin real analysis.

The guest lecture series concluded with an afternoon session by Iwan Ernanto, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., who presented An Introduction to Rings and Their Applications at Building B24, Room 302 (Mathematics Department Hall) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The lecture introduced the fundamental concepts of ring theory and discussed their applications in various areas of mathematics, illustrating the relevance of abstract algebra to the advancement of mathematical knowledge.
The participation of these three lecturers reflects the Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM’s active role in expanding academic partnerships while contributing to the continuous improvement of mathematics education in higher education. Through guest lectures such as this, faculty members not only share their expertise but also foster intellectual exchange, encourage scholarly discussion, and create opportunities for sustainable academic collaboration.
The guest lectures were offered free of charge to students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Malang. In addition to gaining valuable academic insights from leading scholars, participants also received certificates of participation.
This initiative aligns with Universitas Gadjah Mada’s commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting access to high-quality learning opportunities and strengthening students’ academic competencies. Furthermore, the collaboration between the Department of Mathematics FMIPA UGM and the Mathematics Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Malang exemplifies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the importance of inter-university collaboration in advancing education, research, and scientific development.
