ANAVA #18: Unveiling Statistics Through Magical Themes

The Student Association of Statistics (HIMASTA) of Universitas Gadjah Mada organized the 18th ANAVA with the theme “HOGWARTS: Optimizing Our Noble Wizards in Analyzing and Transforming Statistics.” ANAVA aims to introduce statistics to high school students and enhance the statistical skills of D4/S1 level students. The event showcased five main activities and one intriguing pre-event. More than 950 participants from across Indonesia took part in this event. The pre-event “Road to ANAVA (RTA)” served as the preliminary round by visiting various high schools in Yogyakarta to promote Gadjah Mada University and the field of Statistics itself.

The main activities of ANAVA #18 included a series of engaging competitions. D4/S1 students could participate in the National Statistics Olympiad (ONS) and Kompetisi Infografis Statistika (KIS), while high school students could join the Mathematics Statistics Olympiad (OSM) and The One Competition. These competitions began on January 27, 2024, and culminated in the final round that took place on February 17, 2024.

On the same day as the final round, the highlight event, the Awarding Night of ANAVA #18, served as a festive conclusion by inviting all finalists to attend and celebrate their achievements. The event also presented entertainment from the academic community of FMIPA UGM, adding a magical and special touch to the award night.

This activity aligns with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4 and point 17. ANAVA #18 provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about statistics and enhance their skills in this field. This can contribute to efforts to ensure all students have equitable and quality access to education. Furthermore, ANAVA #18 involves cooperation between universities and schools to improve understanding of statistics. This reflects the importance of strong partnerships and cross-sector collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals.

ANAVA #18 successfully provided deep insights into the world of statistics to participants, while creating memorable experiences through the magical theme “HOGWARTS.” Through various competitions and engaging activities, ANAVA #18 not only introduces statistics to the younger generation but also inspires them to continue learning and growing in this field. It is hoped that ANAVA #18 can serve as a strong foundation for participants to develop their interests and talents in the world of statistics and become a positive momentum in popularizing the study of statistics in Indonesia.
